How to Use VaultSap

  1. Export a chat from WhatsApp: Open any chat in WhatsApp → tap … More → Export Chat → Include Media.
  2. Share to VaultSap: In the Share Sheet, tap VaultSap. The .zip arrives in VaultSap's inbox.
  3. Plug in your USB-C drive and open VaultSap.
  4. Import: Go to Settings → tap Import All. Your chat is now organized on the drive.
  5. Browse: Use the Dashboard, Chats, Media, and Search tabs to explore your archive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does VaultSap access my WhatsApp account?

No. VaultSap never logs into WhatsApp. It only works with .zip files you manually export using WhatsApp's own "Export Chat" feature. Your WhatsApp account is never at risk.

Which USB-C drives are supported?

Any USB-C external drive that iOS can see in the Files app works with VaultSap. This includes ORICO, SanDisk, Samsung T7, WD My Passport, and similar drives. The drive should be formatted as ExFAT, FAT32, or APFS.

Can I use VaultSap without a USB-C drive?

Yes. VaultSap stores backups locally on your iPhone even without an external drive. However, USB-C drive storage is recommended for large media archives and as a physical backup you can access from any computer.

VaultSap says "Drive connected but no chats found"

This usually happens when the app's sandbox permission to read the drive has expired. Tap "Reconnect Drive" in the diagnostic card and select the drive using the file picker. This grants fresh read access.

I'm switching from Android - can VaultSap help?

Yes! Export your important chats on your Android phone (same menu: More → Export Chat → Include Media), save the .zip files to Google Drive or a USB-C drive, then share them into VaultSap on your new iPhone. Check the in-app "How It Works" guide under Settings for detailed steps.

Can I browse my backups on a Mac or PC?

Yes. VaultSap writes standard folders to the USB-C drive. Plug the drive into any computer and browse the VaultSap folder - each chat has its own subfolder with a text file and all media.

How do I update a backup with newer messages?

Re-export the same chat from WhatsApp and share it to VaultSap again. The new export will be imported as a separate timestamped backup. A future update will add automatic deduplication.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. VaultSap has no servers, no analytics, and no internet connection requirement. Your data stays on your device and your USB-C drive. See our Privacy Policy for details.
